It has been six long years since Leeton High School put on a musical, but that is all set to change next month.

The school is busily preparing, rehearsing and putting the final touches on its Legally Blonde Jr the musical production, which will take to the stage from June 21 to 24.

It will be the first time the school has had a musical take to the stage since its gLeeton High presents Don’t Stop Believing production based on the television show Glee. Fast forward six years and students of a new generation are ready to wow the crowd.

The musical is based on the popular movie Legally Blonde, where Elle Woods played by Reese Witherspoon has it all. She wants nothing more than to be Mrs Warner Huntington III. However, there is one thing stopping him (Matthew Davis) from proposing – she is too blond. Elle rallies all of her resources and gets into Harvard, determined to win him back.

The plot for the musical will be similar and will include many energetic song and dance routines.

Teacher Kellie Goman said the production was now ramping up. “It’s all starting to come together really well,” she said.

Auditions for parts started in October last year, but there were opportunities early this year for new students and those starting in year 7 to show off their talents. Rehearsals have been in full swing for months.

“It’s not very often the students have the opportunity to participate in a musical to this scale,” Mrs Goman said. “It’s an opportunity for them to show off their talent, work as a team, develop their performing arts skills and really extend themselves while having fun.”

Fifty-five students make up the official cats, while 15 others will take on the production and back stage work. Further students will also assist with front of house and hair and makeup requirements.

“We’re really excited to see it all come together,” Mrs Goman said. “Everyone has been working hard.” The P&C has also provided financial assistance to ensure the show is top notch.
