JUNE WRAP-UP

Have we heard your feedback? We have been receiving insightful feedback from the arts and cultural communities of Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera and Murrumbidgee on what professional development opportunities or events they'd like to see come to their region. Help inform our 2023 program - have your say!

The Native Garden’s cultural learning area at Booligal Public School is now complete. Artist Kerri Weymouth with assistance from upcoming local Wiradjuri artist Emma Johnston worked with the students on the design and painting of the beautiful yarning circle. Connected by sitting around the yarning circle, students can come together to talk and share ideas as equals without any judgment. This project was supported by Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc.

Eucalyptusdom is on display at the Powerhouse Museum until 28 August 2022. Featured in the First Nations Fashion + Design display is a dress (front left) by local designer Lillardia Briggs-Houston. The Western Riverina Arts ROR Residency has finished. Recipient Dorothy Roddy spent the six weeks at ROR Space in Griffith developing her arts practice: "I achieved all the goals I set myself and more besides. Thank you for enabling this opportunity and awarding it to me. It is an experience which has helped me grow as an artist and I highly recommend it to others."

The Rescue of Riverina Native Birds exhibition has finished touring in Narrandera at the beautiful venue of The Hive. Thank you Melissa and John from The Hive for your assistance in setting up the exhibition. If you missed the exhibition you can view it from July 15 at its next stop which is the Griffith Regional Theatre.

Robert Sherwood Duffield: Complex Surfaces
19 July - 30 August | Gallery 43, TAFE NSW, Wagga Wagga

Riverina-based artist Robert Sherwood Duffield's latest solo exhibition is Complex Surfaces. This body of work are all monoprints and use a process that Duffield has developed enabling him to print onto very lightweight paper. The works are representative of his restless need to investigate and experiment with media

He says, “These works are a welcome diversion to my usual and more constrained way of making that involves a lot of thinking. I am currently quite tired of work that ‘thinks too much’ these works however are still linked to my restless need to investigate and the satisfaction it gives me to explore colours, textures and media.

They are representative of an investigation into a process and a medium. However in their making there is a joy and surprise in that making that has intrigued and captured me for some time now. There is an almost endless variation of texture and colour within the complex surfaces.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I have, making them for you.”
