The Riverina Lectures: Anthea da Silva
Join Darling Portrait Prize winner and Griffith Regional Art Gallery Public Programs Officer Anthea da Silva for the second instalment of the Riverina Lectures, 6PM Friday July 24 at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery.
Anthea da Silva’s arts practice was highlighted in March 2020 when she won the inaugural Darling Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra with her painting of Dr Elizabeth Cameron-Dalman OAM. Prior to this, Anthea has exhibited in many solo & group exhibitions, co-presented Arts Festivals and large scale urban arts projects, and worked as a Tertiary Arts Lecturer and as an Occupational Therapist across a diverse spectrum – including Specialist Paediatric Clinics, curating and facilitating exhibitions in regional & remote Western Desert Communities, and with Prisoners & Refugees.
Her artwork often celebrates portraiture and the human body, mostly in oils & watercolours and acrylics on light-boxes and through facilitation of regular Dynamic Life Drawing sessions. Anthea currently works in Public Programs at Griffith Regional Art Gallery, and is now focussing more on her own passion for painting & drawing, particularly in portraiture & landscape. At last! Anthea will unpack some of the highs and lows of her creative ventures, and chat a little about the ‘Prize’ and how it fits within a broader arts spectrum.
