Learning the Harp with local musicians in Narrandera

Do you love the harp? Would you like to play alongside other harpists?

Simply join local talent Rachel Warren and Hilary Manning, along with John O’Brien favourite Christine Middleton, for their harp workshop for harp lovers and harp players.

Who: Beginner/Intermediate harpists
When: 10am-1pm, Saturday 16 March 2019
Where: CRC Church Hall, Bolton St, Narrandera
Price: $50 per person
Harp hire: $25 per person (or bring your own harp)

Workshop will cover:

  • How to take care of your harp: Tuning, Restringing, Maintenance

  • How to play the harp (posture, reading music)

  • How to play in a group / with a singer

  • The opportunity to perform together in the afternoon harp concert

After the workshop local musicians Rachel Warren, Hilary Manning and Christine Middleton, will lead an afternoon concert of harp music: harp by itself, harp with voice, and harps all together. The concert will also showcase the participants from the harp workshop. All are welcome to enjoy the concert.

About the Musicians

Rachel Warren is a Narrandera musician, who grew up performing in many local charity concerts and competitions. You may know her from leading the singing for the ANZAC ceremony. Since 2017 Rachel began studying music at the Australian National University in Canberra, focusing on vocal performance. Rachel has always been attracted to the harp and has started having harp lessons in Canberra.

Hilary Manning is a Narrandera musician, who has travelled, studied and performed as a harpist extensively. In Australia, she studied her Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University, completing her final year with the incredible Judy Loman in Canada at the University of Toronto. She also completed a Graduate Diploma in Professional Music Practice at the University of Tasmania. Highlights include performing with the Seven Harp Ensemble for the BeijingTV New Year Spring Gala; performing in London for His Excellency Alexander Downer, High Commissioner for Australia; performing at Government House for Her Excellency Quentin Bryce in 2009; and performing at the American Harp Congress in San Francisco, as an ArtsACT ‘Emerging Artist’. She has recently returned from London, studying her PhD at King's College London.

Christine Middleton is a Certified Therapeutic Harpist and a lover of all things Harp.  She recently launched her new business "Healing Harp" to promote the healing qualities of the harp for wellbeing and health. Christine is also an Award Winning Playwright, Musician, Storyteller, Performer and Writer of Life Story Musical Theatre Productions that document real historical journeys of ordinary people living lives of adventure, joy, heartache and endeavour.  Accompanying herself on the Celtic Harp, Christine sings and tells stories of love, journey, hope, adventure and survival.
