GRAG releases exhibitions and workshops schedule for 2018

The Griffith Regional Art Gallery has released their exhibitions and workshops schedule for 2018. The exhibition schedule includes touring exhibitions, collections on loan from other prominent cultural institutions, exhibitions by local artists and the National Contemporary Jewellery Award. 

The workshop schedule includes workshops for adults, children and toddlers. Printmaking, resin castings and art for relaxation are examples of the types of workshops available in 2018.

Artexpress

The best of 2017 NSW HSC students visual arts major works. Friday 2nd February – Sunday 4th March 2018

The Art of Dinosaur Designs: 

An exhibition of colourful resin artworks by Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy. Official opening: Friday 9th March, 6pm – 8pm. Open Saturday 10th March – Sunday 15th April 2018.

Balnhdhurr: 

A touring exhibition from Art Back NT celebrating 20 years of onsite printmaking and the Tirrkala Print Space in the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre located in North East Arnhem Land. Official Opening Friday 20th April, 6pm – 8pm. Open Saturday 21st April – Sunday 27th May, 2018.

Exposé: 

An exhibition of recent artworks by the Griffith Regional Art Gallery’s Life Drawing group. Official opening Thursday 31st May, 6pm – 8pm. Open Wednesday 30th May – Sunday 10th June, 2018.

For Nation, For Country: 

A touring exhibition from the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, commemorating the sacrifice and dedication of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have given to Australia in conflicts since WW1. Official opening Friday 15th June, 6pm – 8pm. Open Saturday 16th June – Sunday 22nd July

Lucky City: Highlights from the Collection: 

An exhibition of pieces from the Griffith City Council’s permanent Collection including previous winners of the National Contemporary Jewellery Award. Open Saturday 28th July – Sunday 5th August, 2015.

2018 National Contemporary Jewellery Award and National Emerging Art Glass Award:      

Now in its 30th year the biennial acquisitive award is the Griffith Regional Art Gallery’s flagship event with the winning piece acquired into the National Contemporary Jewellery Collection. A coinciding exhibition will be the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery’s National Emerging Art Glass Prize, also an acquisitive biennial national competition established to promote innovation and excellence in contemporary glass art. Official opening Friday 10th August, 6pm – 8pm. Open Saturday 10th August – Sunday 23rd September 2018

Elsewhere: Travels to Syria, Iran, Egypt, Morocco and Central Asia: 

This exhibition features works created by celebrated Australia artists Wendy Sharp and Bernard Ollis. The exhibition is perceptive journey through people and places that have been clouded by misapprehension. Official opening Friday 28th September, 6pm – 8pm. Open Saturday 29th September – Sunday 4th November 2018.

Murru

Continuing on from the successes of Murrumbidgee Marramarra in 2016 and Warangesda: Deep Waters in 2017, Western Riverina Arts and Griffith Regional Art Gallery present Murru, a new exhibition promoting artistic excellence and professional development for Aboriginal artists in the region. Murru will showcase print and textiles works by local Aboriginal artists. Official opening: Friday 9th November 6pm - 8pm. Open Saturday 10th November – Sunday 2nd December 2018.

Objects of Desire:

This is Griffith Regional Art Gallery’s annual community arts and crafts exhibition/forum promoting the talent and passion of local makers and creators. The exhibition aims to showcase local and had made objects of desire prior to the ‘session of giving.’ Official opening Thursday 6th December, 5pm – 8pm. Open Thursday 6th December – Friday 21st December 2018.

Life Drawing

A series of 6 sessions for beginners to keen artists – drawing with a real live model. $20 per session, BYO materials. Wednesdays 6pm – 8 pm. Wednesday 14th, 21st, 28th February, Wednesday 7th, 14th 21st March 2018

Art with Little Ones

Art classes for toddlers and pre-school aged children with Linzie Ellis. Fortnightly, Thursdays, 10am – 11:30am, $10 per session. Thursday 22nd February, Thursday 8th, 22nd March, Thursday 5th April, 2018.

smARTy Classes

Art classes for 10 – 12 year-olds with Leith Fry. Weekly, Thursdays throughout March, 4pm – 5pm, $35 for all 4 classes. Materials included. Thursday 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd March 2018.

Mould Making and Resin Casting Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of silicon mould making and resin casting using fast- curing resin with Nadine Sharpe. 10am – 3pm, Saturday 10th March 2018.

Printmaking Workshop

Master Printmaker Basil Hall will share advanced printmaking techniques for the more experienced printmaker. 10am – 2pm, Sunday 22nd April 2018.

Relax with Art

Linzie Ellis will be facilitating workshops that aim to introduce art a way to relax through a series of different drawing mediums and methods. Saturday 3rd March, 10am – 2pm, Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Saturday 5th May, Saturday 30th June, Saturday 4th August, 10am – 2pm, Lake Wyangan Lakehouse.

 

Other events: 

Free Gallery Open Day - Saturday 24th February, 10am - 1pm, 2018 : Launch of the 2018 exhibition and workshop schedule. There will be food, art activities, face painting, music, wine and cheese tastings and more! 

Free floor talk with Denise Salvestro, Saturday 21st April, 11am - 12pm. During the Balnhdhurr exhibition Denise will share a passion for history, remote Australian places, people and the arts.

Four Colour Season - Sunday 23rd September, 5pm - 6pm : An elegant and inspiring performance to celebrate the 30th Year anniversary of the National Contemporary Jewellery Award. 

Late and Local - Thursday 6th December, 5pm - 8pm: Live music, market stalls, special discounts in our gift shop, art activities for the kids, sausage sizzle and food vans.
