Western Riverina Arts Micro Grants are NOW OPEN!
Western Riverina Arts are excited to announce that we have launched a micro grants initiative as a result of funding from the NSW Government. WRA are offering small grants of $200 - $800, with a very quick application turnaround to creatives within our four LGAs. We hope that the Western Riverina Arts Micro Grants will not only help some people during this period, but will produce outcomes that can continue beyond the current crisis. Please note the purpose of this grant is to assist with funding for small deliverable projects and verifiable materials and services. We would love to spread the funds as far as possible to those in need, so please do not just apply for quantum amounts.
Please visit this link for more details on eligibility, requirements and to download the application forms. Forms can be submitted to comms@westrivarts.com.au or dropped off at our office at 27-33 Chelmsford Place, Leeton (where physical forms can also be picked up).
We strongly encourage all artists and creative groups and organisations in our LGA's to apply for the ONE-TIME funding opportunity.

Bark Painting Repatriation Journey
In May 2020 Wiradjuri Artist Veronica Collins was given guardianship of a bark painting that had been part of Neil Pilloni's family for over six decades. From that moment on, Veronica began a quest to return it to its Traditional Owners. Investigative research discovered that it belonged to the Anindilyakwa People of Groote Eylandt. Ten months later in February 2021 Hape Kiddle was tasked with delivering it by hand to the Anindilyakwa Traditional Owners on Groote Eylandt N.T. from Griffith in regional NSW.
The repatriation was significant and historic because it is the only known painting that has representation of a creation being of that land. Now that it's back on Country, it is unable to be viewed by women and children. Veronica's tireless work to repatriate the painting has forever connected Wiradjuri and Anindilyakwa People, both culturally and spiritually.
A coming together event was held at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery on 11th March 2021 to honour Veronica's quest. Keep a lookout for stories that will reveal the extraordinary efforts that went into getting this unique painting back on Country.

New Public Work From Tobias Bennett
Ode to the Mighty Murray by Leeton Artist Tobias Bennett was added to the Albury-Wodonga public art trail as part of the Upstream Festival. The Murray Cod sculpture was installed at Oddie's Creek at Noreuil Park.
"The Murray Cod is a fish of great significance. It is the largest exclusively freshwater fish in Australia residing in the largest river system in the land. For millions of years, Murray Cod have dominated the waters of the Murray-Darling basin. Fossils have been found from 26 million years ago and many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creation stories describe a giant Murray Cod which originally carved the Murray River in a time before time. Since European settlement, wild populations of Murray Cod have declined significantly to now being listed as endangered, largely due to commercial exploitation and human intervention with the river."
You can tour the Albury-Wodonga public art trail online via this link.

Following the conclusion of Artstate in Wagga Wagga in 2020, Regional Arts NSW engaged WRI (Western Research Institute) to conduct an independent evaluation of Artstate in order to understand the importance of the event for its delegates, for regional arts policy and to measure its social and economic impacts. The final Impact Assessment has now been published, and The Artstate team is proud to announce that this evaluation concluded that “Artstate delivered on its intended aims of the event."
