Happy August!

July was a very busy month for us, Western Riverina Arts moved to our new home at the Water conservation and Irrigation Commission Building in Leeton - so if you’re in the area and feel like having a chat about all things creative then please stop by and say hello.

Currently showing in our new building is the ‘Underworld: Mugshots from the Roaring Twenties’ exhibition, it features over 130 images reproduced from the scanned original glass plate negatives. Accompanying the images are the backstories of the suspects revealing criminal activity, networks and some international links. I encourage everyone in the area to come take a look at the breathtaking images, stories and history (Admission is $10 pp).

Last week the team flew to the big smoke to attended the launch of the Artstate Tamworth 2019 program which is now live and ready for registrations! Be the first to secure your seat and join in the celebration of regional arts and cultural practice in the New England North West. Early Bird tickets are available and Regional Arts NSW is also offering Quick Response Grants to help get you there.

Lastly, a subtle reminder that the Regional Art fund is still open. Any artists within the region are highly encouraged to apply. Western Riverina Arts Regional Arts Development Officer Derek Motion is happy to answer any questions about the application process if needed. Contact Derek via 0428 882 059 or rado@westrivarts.com.au

What's New?

Regional artists 'yield' incredible results in their creative practice

Western Riverina Arts is supporting the new exhibition Yield, set to open at Griffith Regional Art Gallery on Friday 16 August 2019. The audience will become immersed in the incredible world of arts and disability and witness how the exhibiting artists have been democratising the art world and advocating for inclusivity through their excellent artworks.

Yield is a group exhibition that brings together 22 emerging and established artists with and without learning disability from the Riverina, Wollongong and Liverpool, UK.

Curated by Sarah McEwan from the Cad Factory, the exhibition is a cross regional partnership between the Cad Factory, Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Riverina Community College and Western Riverina Arts to raise the profile of learning disabled artists from Temora to Griffith.

The opening of Yield is on Friday 16 August from 6pm – 8pm at Griffith Regional Art Gallery. All are welcome to attend the celebration.

On Saturday 17 August from 11am – 2pm at Griffith Regional Art Gallery there will be a forum to share and discuss local, national and international progressive art practices. A creative program of short films made by and about people with learning disability will be screened as well. Both events are free to attend, and no bookings are required.

For more information, head to The Cad Factory website.
