Ngarru Miimi is a slow ethical fashion label handprinted, designed and constructed on unceded Wiradjuri Country by Lillardia Briggs-Houston – a Wiradjuri Gangulu Yorta Yorta woman based in Narrungdera, Wiradjuri Country. Lillardia's textile process is a long one and involves hand painted and hand carved designs that are then hand printed onto larger yardage in the studio located in Narrungdera, Wiradjuri Country.
Says Lillardia: “We pride ourselves on the most ethical and sustainable textile process that provides First Nations led self-determination, autonomy and protection of our culture and country. We use only natural fibres from reputable sources and water based inks from a Sydney based business.
All of our textiles are exclusively created and hand-printed on Wiradjuri Country to pay respect to our ancestors and cultural integrity.”
In 2021 the textiles studio was supported by the Regional Arts Fund through Regional Arts NSW and Western Riverina Arts. “We would not be able to do what we do on Country without the support of these regional art networks.”
